I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this great dog fountain now after two years of solid use. It has served us through an American Bulldog pup, which I happily sold after she destroyed nearly everything in and out of our house, and now is loved by our 1 yr old Irish Wheaten terrier (great dog!), AND our 5 yr old 30 lb Maine Coon cat. Yes, this fountain requires maintenance, on average about every two weeks. But for cryin out loud people, that's a no brainer when you consider how much clean water is continuously provided to your pets, and how seldom you have to fill up the large capacity bowl (about once a week). And they LOVE this fountain!
It does require joyless, intensive cleaning; yet as previously described, it's SIMPLE to get inside the blue bowl to clean it like new. Don't hesitate to disassemble the pump too, as Hagen highly recommends on their site. And I did initially keep the fountain outside, but it stays much cleaner if used indoors. We're talking about a water fountain here, folks.
My only bitch is the three rubber feet on the bottom are easily lost during cleaning, and are the only things keeping the lower bowl off the ground, so the unit gets noisier if any feet are missing. Just try finding the replacement feet. So, blow off the negative reviews here, this fountain is worth every penny, and Amazon is offering a great price. I'd buy additional filters too with the initial purchase (both the charcoal purifying filters and the replacement foam inserts), as the Big Box pet stores seem clueless (imagine that) about these units.Get more detail about Dog It Fresh and Clear Large Dog Fountain - Dog It 73651.
