I bought this to use for a homeless cat that lived in my yard. With a regular bowl, a flock of birds came and ate most or all of the dry food. So, I thought this flip lid bowl would keep the birds out so the cat would have food when he came to eat. Well, the cat never figured out how to open this to get at the food, even though I put some food on the rim and also pushed it in front of him to see how it worked. But, the birds figured out to use it on their own! Several times I watched a bird hop up on the rim to open the lid and then eat.
Some cats will learn how to use this, but they won't all understand it.
