I purchased this to hold dog food. I buy food in 5 lb bags and wanted to keep it fresh. It works for that purpose and is very handy for pouring, but it doesn't hold quite 5 lbs of the dog food I use. That may just be due to the shape/size of the kibble I use, so that may not be true for everyone. It is a bit of an inconvenience not to be able to pour the whole bag in, but a minor one.
