Only one of our three dogs learned to use the machine, which is fine, because she's the one we bought it for! It took her no time to learn to use it. She looks like a little factory worker pushing the lever up and down. We've had it for five years, but my son accidentally stepped on it tonight and broke the plastic dome. This is an excellent product that has withstood a lot of rough use (up until now).
